Courtney Oakes, BSW
Social Work Intern
I take a holistic approach when working with clients. I utilize tools such as family of origin and timeline/ecomapping to understand where we have come from and what traumatic events as well as positive events have shaped us into who we are today. I believe that by understanding where we come from, we can begin to do the work of undoing past trauma while learning how to live a life of peace and joy.
I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Indiana Wesleyan University and will complete a Master’s degree in Social Work in December 2021. Outside of school and this internship, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 3 children, our pandemic puppy, my inside and outside garden, and our friends.
I became a social worker because of my experience with and belief in therapeutic relationships. My focus with clients is to create a therapeutic relationship with the goal for them to find peace and empowerment in their daily lives. I am passionate about advocating for oneself, not only to live a functional life, but one that you are able to enjoy. I believe everyone has the capacity for healing and no one is too ‘messed up’ to make peace with the past and move towards a healthy future.
